Taxes And How I Want to Facilitate Change

Taxes, once raised, rarely go down.

That doesn't mean taxes should never increase. It means every increase should have a clear purpose, deliver a measurable benefit, and be visible to the residents paying for it.

A 5% annual tax increase compounds quickly. Over time, it becomes harder for families, seniors, and young people to keep up. If taxes need to increase, residents deserve to know exactly what they're paying for.

My first priority is making sure the people working for our community providing the services we need like road maintenance, water and infrastructure have what they need to do their jobs well. That means to me is supporting our public works crews who keep our island moving, investing in the equipment they rely on, and ensuring front-line staff have the resources to not just do their jobs, but do them well.

Where I'll ask tougher questions is when new management or executive positions are proposed. Before creating another layer of administration, I want to know exactly what problem it solves, what measurable value it will deliver, and whether that work could be accomplished within the existing organization.

I believe residents should be able to see where their tax dollars are going—not simply be told things are happening behind the scenes.

Government should be judged by what it delivers, not by how many people it manages.
