Housing

If elected to council, I'll judge every housing proposal on its own merits. Whether it's a secondary suite, a coach house, a duplex, modular housing, rental housing, or a larger development, every proposal deserves a fair hearing.

If you have an idea that removes barriers to housing while respecting Bowen's character, and environmental needs, I'll listen.

Housing isn't one-size-fits-all. The needs of seniors, young families, people with disabilities, essential workers, and those simply trying to stay on Bowen aren't always the same. Good decisions start by listening to the people affected, understanding those differences, and making sure every voice has an opportunity to be heard.

What I won't do is support growth at any cost. I won't support projects that ignore their impact on our water, infrastructure, environment, or the character of our island. I also won't reject a good idea simply because it's unpopular.

Every proposal deserves the same thing: honest questions, careful scrutiny, and a decision based on its merits—not assumptions or ideology.

That includes proposals that improve accessibility and housing options for residents with disabilities—including developmental, intellectual, physical and other disabilities—as well as people who are underhoused, struggling to secure safe, affordable housing, or escaping domestic violence, and senior housing that allows residents to age in place, provided those proposals are practical, sustainable, and within the municipality's power to action. 

We can't solve today's problems by pretending yesterday's solutions still fit. The pressures affecting Bowen are bigger than our island, and ignoring them won't make them disappear.
