Seizing Opportunities

Opportunities don't wait. Whether it's grant funding, infrastructure, partnerships, or private investment, council needs to be ready to make informed decisions when they come along.

That doesn't mean rushing into every proposal. It means asking the right questions, making sure everyone around the table understands what is being presented, and having the confidence to make a decision.

I believe one of the most important jobs of a councillor is helping the rest of council understand the information in front of them. Every councillor brings different experience to the table. By slowing the discussion down when needed, explaining technical issues in plain language, and asking practical questions, we make better decisions together.

Too often, opportunities are delayed because council isn't comfortable making a decision. Sometimes that's the right call. Other times, delays mean missed funding, missed investment, or projects that never come back.

My approach is simple. Be prepared. Ask good questions. Help others understand the issue. Then make a decision and move forward.

Bowen Island deserves a council that can recognize good opportunities when they arise and has the confidence to act on them.
